Pregnancy Stretch Marks

Pregnancy Stretch Marks (PSM) occurs in the lining of the skin right below the dermis. They can usually be identified because they are often surrounded by fresh scar tissue. Common areas affected are hips, upper thighs, upper arms, and buttocks. Pregnancy is a major time for growth and expansion of the skin, and so the skin may be stretched beyond capacity and rupture occurs.

Pregnancy is a unique time for most women, but Pregnancy Stretch Marks are quite common. Stretch marks occur normally as we grow and expand throughout our lives, however, in the case of pregnancy, the skin stretches too fast and becomes weakened, making it more vulnerable to tear. Pregnancy is a time when the body is particularly receptive to damage, as the hormone levels increase and the body becomes less capable of repairing itself. These scars are a result of the body's inability to repair the skin and restore it to pre-pregnancy conditions.



Some of the first signs of pregnancy include having a dimple or pouching of the abdomen, indented belly skin, and an overall lighter feeling in the pelvic area. The skin in the lower abdomen may also become loose and saggy. Although these symptoms are quite obvious, they can be hard to miss if you are not expecting a pregnancy. Pregnancy Stretch Marks often develop on the stomach, belly, and upper arms, however, they can appear on other areas too.

In general, pregnancy-related stretch marks fade over time but do not disappear completely. They will either remain darker or less noticeable than before or may even become lighter or disappear altogether. If they do start to fade, then this is a good sign, because it means that your body is making progress. The sooner you begin treatment, the better chance you have of fading the stretch marks and getting rid of them for good.

There are some steps you can take to help reduce the visibility and appearance of pregnancy stretch marks, such as wearing looser clothing, sleeping with more pillows, avoiding any activity that will stretch the skin and encouraging the skin to produce less collagen and elastin. It is also important to eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water during your pregnancy, as these are excellent skincare techniques that will nourish your skin while it repairs itself. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep, and avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time. If you exercise regularly, make sure that you stretch the muscles in your abdomen to give yourself some relief from the pressure of carrying a baby. These skincare methods may not give complete relief and should be used along with other forms of treatment to get the most dramatic results.

As your skin cells regenerate, they will fill in any gaps left by the reduction in fat and skin substance. This can result in a smoother appearance, but it can also mean that the scars are becoming more visible. If you feel that you have already begun to see signs of improvement, it is important to work with your doctor on a regular skincare routine to continue to improve the situation. A good hydration routine should be done daily and should include a daily moisturizer and a light face and neck moisturizer so that the new layers of cells are not created to fast. During the second trimester, you should start taking vitamin D supplements, as this can help improve the health of your skin cells and improve your chances of preventing pregnancy stretch marks. Be sure to speak with your doctor and follow all instructions carefully.
